Ballet Under the Stars: Impressions- Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 at 8 p.m. Ballet Under the Stars: Impressions will be presented by Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble. This long standing tradition has become a favorite way for many Austinites and surrounding communities to kick off the summer. Come early and watch the company warm-up, bring a picnic and a blanket, and stretch out under the stars as the stunning and powerful dancers of AMDE take the stage. This performance is FREE, but donations will be collected during intermission. Concessions are also available, so bring cash. Both donations and concessions go towards production expenses, so we encourage you to give generously so we can continue this tradition for many years to come. Something for Nothing Presents Shakespeare’s Hamlet - Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 at 8 p.m. Shake out your picnic blankets for a night of Shakespeare under the stars! Something for Nothing Theater will perform Hamlet with minimal props, costumes, and lighting, focusing on storytelling and the rich language of Shakespeare. Performed by a cast of nine actors, featuring Jon Cook as Hamlet, Hamlet concludes at a brisk two hours. FREE! Ramsey Park, 4301 N Rosedale Ave, Austin.

Sound of Music Sing-a-long- Saturday, May 31 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, June 1 at 2 and 6 p.m. Sing Along to The Sound of Music! Three chances to sing along with Maria and the Von Trapp Family. And of course we’ll be booing the Nazis. Tickets: $15. The Paramount Theatre, 600 Congress Avenue, Austin.

Laura’s Library Summer Reading Kickoff Event (Bee Cave)- Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Come join us as we kick off our summer reading program with special events for all ages. Sensory Friendly Film: Maleficient- Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m. AMC Theatres (AMC) and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the “Sensory Friendly Films” program. In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing – in other words, AMC’s “Silence is Golden®” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned. AdvertisementLakeway Summer Kickoff- Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Summer is just around the corner! Are you looking for activities and day camps in the Lakeway area? This event will familiarize children and their parents about the classes and camps that are being offered at the Lakeway Activity Center over the summer. The Austin Planetarium will set up an indoor exhibit inside the ballroom and around the perimeter of the room, tables full of instructors will offer hands-on introductions to their classes. Participating exhibitors include KinderDance, Abrakadoodle, Tae Kwon Do, Singing Bowl, Dog Training, Cook Learn Grow, CATS Summer Camp, Bits Bytes and Bots, Lego 101, Round Rock Fencing Club and SportBall. ATX Kids Back to Summer Shopping- Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. ATX Kids Back to Summer Austin Style is a one day, pop-up shopping event for Austin kids. Established by four local brands that create and sell child-centered products, for babies to teens, the aim of the event is to provide kids a fun, creative, experiential shopping market that supports local businesses. Similar to the SoCo Artist Market, ATX Kids will be an outdoor pop-up market which will offer the best Austin-based kids brands in town. UMLAUF Family Day- Sunday, June 1,  noon- 4 p.m. During Family Day, UMLAUF offers a special, hands-on program designed for families with children, four to ten years old. Families have the opportunity to explore the Umlauf collection and exhibitions in the garden and museum while engaging in creative activities. Family Day includes Yoga in the garden (12:30pm), Story Time  (1pm), Sculpture Demonstrations by representatives from Texas Society of Sculptors (1:30 PM), music by Austin Jazz Workshop, Sculpture Scavenger Hunts and much much more! First Sunday at Bullock Museum – Sunday, June 1, from noon – 6 p.m. The theme of this month’s First Sunday is Military Day.  Visit the Museum exhibits for FREE and explore the role that the military has played in Texas history through demonstrations, hands-on activities, and more. Cheer Up Buttercups Meet the Experts- Sunday, June 1, from 1- 4 p.m. Please join us for an afternoon of games, treats, and conversations with some of the best experts in the parenting field at Ashley’s Playhouse. Cheer Up Buttercups is a locally-based Parent Consulting Company, supporting parents of children ages 0-5, and offering sleep consulting, nutritional counseling, lactation consulting, behavior, and potty training services. Their experts will be on hand to meet and greet parents and signups will be available for their summer workshop expo on Sunday June 22nd. Wonderland at the Hideout- Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m.- Wonderland is a magical, silly place, full of excitement and strange characters.  Our hero starts out in the real world with real world problems, but it is not long before s/he is swept away into Wonderland, there we will find amazing creatures, and obstacles to overcome.  But we can’t overcome them without your help!  You will help decide what wonderland it like, what sort of strange characters live there, and you will help us get through, and you might even play an amazing creature yourself! Who knows what will happen? Come find out! It’s story time for the imaginative and adventurous! This show is a blast for the entire family, but especially for ages four to ten. Austin Symphony Hartman Foundation Concert in the Park – Sunday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. Austin Symphony Hartman Foundation “Concerts in the Park” return to the Long Center for a 12th season of FREE ensemble concerts on Sunday evenings. Each Sunday, a different ensemble of the Austin Symphony will be featured at the Hartman Park, located on the grounds of the Long Center, performing music from jazz and light classical to pops selections and film scores. This Sunday, you can enjoy Brass. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and make it a group outing.
